Masterpieces do not emerge by chance. The group’s ideas have coalesced through the long work together at festivals and concerts, in clubs around the world. After the critically acclaimed ESP debut, the trio TOTEM> returns with another stunning recording. The three are Bruce Eisenbeil on electric guitar, Tom Blancarte on bass and Andrew Drury on drums. Their sound and noise action, total group empathy and the ongoing search for a forward outlet while generating huge amounts of hyperkinetic energy places them as champions of the highest level in this indefinable genre, which includes noise, metal, free, and which had among its pioneers the Massacre of Fred Frith. The songs are performed with a very dense, technical rebellion, in which silence has little place. There is a continuous force which pushes towards the outside like a centripetal movement from the hyperactivity of the three musicians. There is no rest or fatigue, and the explosion, see “Post- Repeating”, is around the corner. “Written in the Body” explores the situations with more space and abstraction, a perfect counterpoint to the broadsides of energy that emerge elsewhere. The CD ends with “Silence On Its Road”, which can surprise us by it’s sound
that almost comforts us after they slammed the listener in the previous tracks. It is a great record, the kind that is not easily forgotten.
