Il sassofonista tenore brasiliano Ivo Perelman, come sempre prodigo di musica con chi segue le sue improvvisazioni, questa volta si presenta con un cofanetto di nove incisioni in duo, tutte effettuate con pianisti, rispettivamente Dave Burrell, Marilyn Crispell,
Aruán Ortiz, Aaron Parks, Sylvie Courvoisier, Agustí Fernández, Craig Taborn, Angelica Sanchez e Vijay Iyer. Come sempre il suo sassofono è una fonte infinita di suoni che ben si fondono con i diversi pianisti, ognuno con un suo stile ed un suo approccio all’improvvisazione totale. È un lungo percorso, ma lo si fa volentieri insieme al sassofonista ed agli altri che vengono continuamente stimolati dalla sua forza espressiva sempre varia e capace di inventare qualcosa di sorprendente ad ogni passo. Non mancano momenti più poetici, il Chapter Nine insieme a Marilyn Crispell può essere un esempio fra i tanti, insieme ad altri più liberi, ma in ogni momento c’è un voglia di comunicare estrema, la capacita di trovare sempre la soluzione migliore e di sorprendere anche il pubblico più avvezzo al genere. Vale la pena ascoltare e digerire con calma, c’è tanto materiale nel cofanetto, ma nessun momento a vuoto.
